The Fairmont-Marion County Transit Authority's intern program was a success during the fall 2009 semester and is happy to continue the program during the Spring 2010 semester. Our new intern is Serena Setcavage. Serena is originally from Burgettstown, PA and attended high school in Weirton, WV. She will be graduating in May 2010 from Fairmont State University with a degree in Information Systems. While attending Fairmont State she was an active student. She is currently a supervisor overseeing the intramural sports program.
The transit authority recognizes the benefits to having an intern. The success of the internship is leading to many different options and we look forward to future opportunities such as this.
In today's technology based world, we are in an ever changing environment. Our goal in having an intern is to keep up with those changes. The education that is provided to the interns allows the transit to benefit and to keep up with technology through this knowledge management process.
This relationship with Fairmont State University will continue to work great for us. We like the idea that we can support FSU and that we are contributing to the education process for the intern. Serena will also learn a lot about what we do. Working in operations at the transit will allow her to see the fast paced environment that we work in everyday.
We would like to thank Dr. Giorcelli and Dr. Blankenship for supporting this initiative. The Information Systems program is a major that all students should consider. Keeping up with technology is critical in today’s framework of knowledge distribution.
Serena’s tasks will include working on advertising projects, web development, creating online applications with ASP.Net, creating graphics with Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. She will also be involved in optimizing current routes utilizing a new process at the transit called Zonar. Zonar is a fleet management system with GPS tracking.
More information will be provided on our progress. Check our newspaper for updates on this program.

In 1973 the City of Fairmont and the Marion County Commission formed the Fairmont-Marion County Transit Authority. It is governed by a five-member board of directors. Two members are appointed by the City Council of Fairmont and two by the Marion County Commission . The fifth member is appointed jointly by both groups.
The Fairmont-Marion County Transit Authority moved to 400 Quincy Street, our current location in 1980. Our headquarters was renovated in 2008 to expand maintenance, a public area and office space.
Over the years, FMCTA has grown to the current 25 handicap accessible fleet, serving most of Marion County, traveling over five-hundred thousand miles a year with fourteen weekday routes and a limited schedule on Saturdays. Our services include paratransit, which is a special service for those passengers who qualify, Medicaid transport and dial-a-ride service for our community. We also take your friends and neighbors to work throughout the tri-county area.
The Fairmont-Marion County Transit Authority is always striving to meet the demands of the passenger, and to provide the highest service. Routes are monitored and adjusted as needed to serve more areas, or to better accommodate the times required by the public.
For more information about our routes, paratransit services or our non-emergency medical transportation services, please call our office at (304) 366-8177.
