More than just drivers, transit authority employees enjoy working with public.

FAIRMONT — Barb Guthrie called the Times West Virginian about two Fairmont-Marion County Transit Authority drivers she wanted to nominate for “Everyday Heroes.”
“I go to therapy three times a week,” she says. “Steve Allen picks me up in the parking lot (at Marion Unity Apartments). I have to use the wheelchair lift. He takes me there and helps me when I get there. He is one of the nicest guys you could imagine.
“You could be down in the dumps and he could boost you up with a smile. The transit authority should be thankful to have him.
“Herb Martin picks me up at the doctor’s office. He’s an ornery little bugger but he’s really good. If I’m feeling bad or something, he’s always got a joke to tell me. He brings me back to the Unity Terrace parking lot.
“I deal with Steve and Herb three days a week. They are everyday heroes. I love them both. I want them to know it. I want everyone in town to know it.”
Needless to say, Steve Allen and Herb Martin are the Times West Virginian’s “Everyday Heroes” this week.
